Sustainability is a common word in several forums,
being addressed by diverse audiences such as governments, businesspeople and researchers. However, we cannot place
“a new patch on an old cloth”, as wisdom says
popular. And the crises we are experiencing today on our planet (climatic, social, economic) teach us that we need
a deeper change in the ways of being, producing,
consume and live.
Sustainability shouldn't be just another label
on product packaging in order to assist companies
in its segmentation, communication and search process
market niches. It should be an awareness of society as a whole, a search for values and actions, which
make the planet truly sustainable, that is, alive and healthy
for future generations.
“This timely and current book helps us understand
why it is necessary and urgent to make the transition to
a model of sustainable production and consumption in a
crucial moment for Humanity, faced with the emergency
climate change and the destruction of ecosystems as a result of unbridled consumerism.” (Dr. Iva Miranda Pires, Coordinator of the Masters/Doctorate in Human Ecology and Professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa,
Portugal. He is president of the Society for Human Ecology).
“Excellent reference for reflection on the multiple
facets of thinking about sustainable consumption. I highlight the
provocation to the importance of individual action and
collective and rethinking practices to abandon
the old patterns of production and consumption.” (Dr. Eliane
Brito, Professor and Researcher, FGV, São Paulo)
